Devlog #4

Huzzah!

I have finally completed another small milestone for this project!

My latest minecraft mod update was EXTREMELY LARGE; very over-scoped, and it took quite a while before I finally decided to call it done.

The main problem there was over-generalization in the update's theme"food and fuels". And oh, I added food and fuels alright; far too many foods and fuels! (mostly foods)

I definitely could have split the update into at least five (5) far more reasonably-sized (but still thematically consistent and complete) portions, and that's not even taking into account the work I've been doing to implement a custom type of crafting recipe to replace & combine shaped and shapeless grid crafting while providing extra functionality!

I hadn't tried making my own crafting recipe type before, and the recipe type implementation is a bit tricky, so there's been a lott'a learning to do.

(I want ingredient remainder override functionality to facilitate new soup/stew recipes, and recipes for transferring my new fluids between buckets and bowls & bottles)

Even still, my custom crafting type is not yet complete; it DOES work, but presently doesn't provide any functionality beyond an ordinary shapeless recipe. I've decided to push the completion of this recipe type onto future mod updates.

My update planning and over-scoping avoidance techniques have improved, and I've fully planned the next twenty-one updates for my Minecraft mod already.

See that big ol' 16 by 16 pixel (and wonderfully non-anti-aliased) image I slapped up there atop this devlog?

That's not for this game. No; that's one of the textures I made while slackin' off, for a "Ludosilk Sheet" item, which I've also devised the functionality of, but won't even be adding to my Minecaft mod 'til eighteen updates from now.

Since gettin' that huge 'ol mod update outt'a the way, I've been ever-so-leisurely inchin' toward the completion of another small milestone for Test Project Githo (the project this devlog is for!).

And FINALLY I've just finished it; the first small milestone since the previous devlog.

This one wasn't over-scoped or anything. I DEFINITELY could have completed it in a day or two... I'm just still a bit intimidated by basic physics calculations, and how BORING they can be to think about.

Ultimately, it was just the same sort of thing I've already done a bunch of times before, in addition to a few basic math operations.

And so, I've successfully added a nice little slidy thing. It can slide back and forth, and also bounce! Not something that merits and update to the project page here, though. And certainly not something that I'll be more specific about!

I've also done some proper calculation for the total quantity of milestones until Test Project Githo version 1.0.0, and that number is presently 30, including the one I've just completed (but not including any prior). It might increase, but I don't expect it to so much as double from here, at least.

Milestones Completed:
